What's Better than Fall?

Frankly, I can't think of anything better than fall, at least not season-wise. What's not to love? It brings all the best things in life--giant pumpkins, changing foliage, crisp apples, sleeping under an extra thick down comforter with the window open. It's potato weather, too, at least in my house. We don't eat potatoes during the summer months, with the exception of a potato salad here and there as it's just too darn hot to turn on the oven. But not now; I'm in gnocchi heaven...and oven fries and mashed territory.

Harvest

I just harvested what will probably be the last of my heirloom tomato crop, although there are still a few beauties--green, though--clinging to the trellis.

Peach Harvest

As a gardener, one of the things I've always longed for was to have fruit trees. Somehow, there's something ultra satisfying about the possibility of harvesting baskets and baskets of fruit. Maybe even opening up the opportunity to can--make some preserves, chutneys, even exotic relishes.

Hanging Out at the Farmer's Market

I just realized that I've been so busy with life, that I've neglected any postings in a good while. What's been going on here is a bit of a heatwave. It seems that in one fell swoop, actually, one laundry basket, we've gone from cool, chilly mornings where a long sleeve shirt or sweater was a mandatory piece of attire, straight to shorts, tank tops, and really, wearing a swimsuit from morning until night.

Pork Chop Sandwiches at Earth's End

So, it's been a bit of a span since I last posted...what can I say? Spring is spinning to a close and there has been so much to see and so much to do.
Last Thursday, Ken and I decided to make use of the Big Sur hiking book that Santa stuffed in my stocking this past Christmas, so early that morning we decided to load ourselves into the car and head up Highway 1 to the Southern end of Big Sur.

Pismo Beach Monarchs

This picture is from a ride that we took back in late February, but when I came across it, I was reminded of how fantastic and mesmerizing it was to experience this bit of nature so I decided that a quick post was in order.

Heirloom Tomatoes

A few weeks ago, we tried our luck on the Santa Margarita Lake route again.
